Thank you to our sponsors:

The thriving arts community in Central Virginia is a major factor in the outstanding quality of life for which this region is known. Piedmont Council of the Arts’ major focus is on promoting artists and arts organizations and providing our residents and visitors with up-to-date information on the numerous cultural opportunities available here. PCA supports our artistic community through the following programs:

Providing Information on Cultural Events

Piedmont Council of the Arts provides information on cultural events happening in Central Virginia through its PCArts Cultural Calendar, Catch-a-Star Family Calendar, and online calendar.

Serving as a Central Information Resource

Providing information on exhibit spaces, performance halls and other venues is an important function of Piedmont Council of the Arts.  The PCA staff is happy to meet personally with those seeking information about the arts in Central Virginia and handles numerous requests for information by telephone or email.

Fiscal Agency for New Artistic Ventures

The arts scene in Central Virginia is growing exponentially.  Piedmont Council of the Arts plays an important role in supporting new artistic ventures. PCA provides logistical information to those planning new ventures and often serves as a fiscal agent until they are established with their own non-profit status.  Past partnerships have included the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival, The Side Show Opera Company, and an original play by the Acting ACE Play on Lewis and Clark.  Currently, PCA is serving as the fiscal agent for Zona Latina, a Spanish language television program, and for From Inside Out, an arts education intitiative for the inmate population of central Virginia.

Performing Arts Roundtable

This consortium includes representatives from the rapidly growing performance venues in our region.  It was developed by Piedmont Council of the Arts to provide a forum for these groups to meet and discuss areas of mutual importance. Issues have included planning, sharing space and resources, networking opportunities, and centralized ticketing.

Recognition of Artists and Arts Organizations

Each year Piedmont Council of the Arts recognizes the talented artists and arts organizations through the Arts Awards celebration.  Awardees are nominated from the community at large and selected by a committee composed of former arts awards winners.  For detailed information on this program, please visit the Arts Awards section of this website.

Piedmont Council of the Arts co-sponsors the annual Festival of Cultures, a celebration of linguistic and cultural diversity, held in May at the Lee Park in Charlottesville. The Festival presents music, dance, storytelling, crafts, food and exhibits by diverse ethnic and cultural groups.  PCA was a partner in developing the program, with the Charlottesville City Schools Adult Learning Center English as a Second Language Program.
