Piedmont Council of the Arts is the designated arts council serving the City of Charlottesville and  the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Nelson, and Orange,  with outreach services to Staunton and Waynesboro. For a map of PCA’s service area please click here.

PCA is a nonprofit 501(c)3, membership-based organization, governed by a 21-member Board of Directors. Founded in 1979 by a dedicated group of arts supporters, PCA has expanded its services over the years to meet the needs of Central Virginia’s fast-growing arts community.

PCA’s mission is to serve as the catalyst to enhance the thriving presence of the arts in our community.  Its major goals are to help assure the success of new and established artists, arts organizations, and arts programs; and to assure that the arts are accessible to all residents in our region. PCA meets these goals through:

  • Promotion of artists and cultural events in this region, through PCA’s bi-monthly calendar, website, Arts Awards Artist Celebration and the Arthur C. Greene Rising Star Youth Incentive Awards.
  • Coordination of local artists and arts organizations, to provide a network and forum for recognizing and addressing mutual concerns and opportunities; and coordination between the arts, business, and other organizations.
  • Education, through partnerships with local educational institutions, workshops for teachers, and cultural information for families
  • Access to the arts for all residents and visitors, especially underserved populations.
  • Advocacy, by creating a unified voice to speak on behalf of arts funding at the local, state, and national levels;

The Charlottesville area is rich with cultural resources, both artistic offerings created by our talented artists here, and the opportunity to see excellent presentations in the performing and visual arts which tour here.  Piedmont Council of the Arts plays a major role in seeing that the arts continue to thrive in Central Virginia for the benefit of its residents and visitors.
